Our Water Utilities team boasts an extensive portfolio working on high profile, challenging projects, providing multidisciplinary solutions to Infra / Non-Infra water and wastewater schemes. From feasibility studies and modelling, to design and site supervision, we bring together the talent and expertise necessary to deliver success.

Our established Water Utilities team delivers projects for South East Water and for other water utilities clients across the UK. We are growing to meet our clients’ needs and are actively recruiting at various levels.

We have a number of vacancies for which we require Assistant Engineers to work in our Client head offices in Kent in a co-located and collaborative team. These engineers will work in either above ground non-infrastructure or below ground infrastructure projects, with the opportunity to move between these, on projects within the capital delivery programme.

The candidate will work as an engineer on business-critical projects worth approximately £2 to £4 million per annum. In this capacity they will work closely with the Senior engineering staff to deliver the design of projects across a portfolio of clean water mains, treatment works and service reservoirs.

The candidate will have good technical background in the UK water industry with demonstrable experience in delivery of either or both treatment and service mains and ideally some in service reservoirs. It is preferable the candidate will have successfully worked in a collaborative environment and possess the ability to work closely with peers and design and build partners.

The candidate shall also possess strong technical competence, with the ability to exercise sound engineering judgement and decision making where appropriate. Above all a desire to build upon your technical knowledge and develop as an engineer is pre-requisite for the successful candidate.

Responsibilities:

• Working with internal stakeholders to identify project requirements and ensure that works are completed accordingly

• Input to the preparation of contract documents to ensure robust contract management (NEC3)

• Deliver technical designs that meet project objectives in terms of health & safety, quality and efficiency

• Provide technical input and guidance on matters relating to civil design.

• Liaising with contractors and sub-contractors to ensure buildability

• Prepare budget estimates, review tender prices and facilitate negotiations

• Ensure that environmental, health and safety risks are minimised and mitigated throughout the delivery process

• Input to the value engineering processes across projects

 

Qualifications

 

Essential:

• Proven ability in the water industry with a sound technical background developed at least in part within the UK water sector.

• Knowledge and awareness of current UK industry best practice including water treatment processes, mains laying and multi-disciplinary projects.

• Demonstrable knowledge of working on NEC contracts

• Demonstrable knowledge of working with cross-discipline teams (MEICA, Process, Civil, Planning)

• Demonstrable knowledge of working with design and build contractors and building strong working relationships in this environment

• Proven ability and knowledge to implement a safety strategy as part of project delivery following procedures and practices in this regard to ensure full compliance with CDM co-ordination as Principal Designer.

The candidate will have either or both the following technical abilities;

• Proven ability of working on above ground water treatment and/or service reservoir projects

• Proven ability of working on below ground service water mains design and build projects across various materials and sizes

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering

• Graduate member or incorporated Member of an appropriate Engineering/Scientific Institution working toward chartership

• Valid Water Hygiene Card (training can be provided)

Desirable:

• Master’s degree in an appropriate engineering discipline

• Valid CCNSG safety passport card
