About Position

This position is for an individual contributor reporting to a functional team within the Transmission & Substation (T&S) Technology organization responsible for support of transmission/distribution modeling of power system equipment necessary for grid control applications within the GE/Alstom Energy Management System (EMS). This functional team is also responsible for the maintenance of all situational awareness displays for operators/dispatchers.  This position supports industry developments such as Smart Grid to support the T&S mission.

This position will be required to be on functional area Callout rotation.  The person on Callout rotation serves as the primary contact for operational activities related to troubleshooting, incidence response, and major operational processes within the Control Center Technology Operations organization for a specific functional area.

The end results from the effort put in by a person in this position include, but not limited to the following:

  • Highly available Grid Control Systems (or Emerging Technology) and applications that meet or exceed development or operational targets.
  • Compliant cyber security and protection processes of Grid Control Systems (or Emerging Technology) and applications,
  • Strong customer relationships to the organization’s internal and external customers, and
  • Efficient execution of work plan and related activities in the systems development and/or maintenance and support of Grid Control Systems (or Emerging Technology) and applications to meet or exceed objectives.

To achieve these results, a person in this position needs to demonstrate through training and/or acquired experience

  • The necessary technical and functional skills required to contribute his/her expertise to a functional area within the T&S Technology organization,
  • Excellent development, operational and organizational skills necessary to deliver highly available Grid Control Systems (or Emerging Technology) and applications,
  • Resource management skills to prioritize work plans to develop, maintain, and support systems critical to the T&S Technology organization,
  • Commercial awareness to ensure that risks are properly managed

Job Overview

This position is responsible for the planning, development, application architecture, engineering, implementation, and operations of grid monitoring and control systems and corresponding applications.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops systems including modifying and/or de-commissioning or commissioning the associated applications, programs, and software and ensures compliance with national/regional standards
  • Supports department emerging technologies strategic opportunities and solutions through planning, development, engineering, application architecture, implementation, and operations of
  • Coordinates or contributes to assigned work plans
  • Executes systems planning, systems development, operational, and/or maintenance activities of the systems and applications associated with the grid monitoring and control systems and/or emerging technology
  • Performs work tasks to ensure reliable performance (availability and integrity) or project delivery of systems and applications associated with grid monitoring and control systems and emerging technology
  • Supports and executes the requirements of FRCC Reliability Coordinator Operations per Company/FRCC Agent Agreement
  • Ensures compliance with the NERC Reliability Standards related to the SCC with special emphasis on availability and integrity of grid monitoring and control systems and applications
  • Executes Operational Excellence goals and initiatives
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s – Engineering
  • Experience: 0+ years

  • Master’s Degree
  • Certified Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Six Sigma Master Black Belt
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certified
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certified
