Digital is disrupting the world, it is changing everything about how consumer goods companies, design, source, manufacture and go to market. Unilever intends to be at the front of the digital revolution within R&D and is driving an ambitious Disrupt through Digital agenda across the Divisions.

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is the way Unilever does R&D.  It is a foundation for unleashing huge amounts of energy across Divisions, Functions and Geographies.  The PLM data backbone is also the glue that binds the product development process together within R&D – connecting internal and external data together to support creative data mining and insight generation and enable a revolution in computer simulation and model building.  Together, these drive the Unilever R&Ds 100% In Silico First strategy and the creation of an R&D Data Highway.

Both creativity and discipline are required to help further unlock the power of PLM and drive step-change productivity improvements and growth through exploitation of the R&D Data Highway.  In a data-driven R&D world it is critical that we can leverage the right data, at the right quality and at the right time in the business process for additional insight and additional business benefit.  In addition, it is key that we drive a step-change in the way that we leverage that data asset – exploiting it as a value-adding asset for the enterprise as a whole.
