Job Description
Boeing Research & Technology has a tear down, reverse engineering and should cost facility in Bangalore, which identifies opportunities to lower cost of airplane components and subsystems, simplify designs, or take advantage of newer technologies or manufacturing methods.
The Centre has an immediate opening in Bangalore for a Mechanical Engineer to work in small teams of 2 or 3 to reverse engineer physical parts and assemblies to get 3-D drawings from them and characterize their material composition.
The selected engineer will work with metrology & inspection processes, computer aided measurement systems, portable measurement tools, dimensional measurement software and product modeling software. The engineer will use Reverse Engineering technology and resources to enable Boeing to support its businesses to leverage Boeing’s unique access to 3D data to maintain a competitive advantage on OEM and non OEM programs.
Additionally, the selected engineer will:
Have previous experience in the design of components and assemblies to help understand how to interact with the design engineers
Have some experience of aerospace or automotive design and manufacturing processes/techniques.
Develop drawings and should cost models for supplier components or engineered parts.
Ensure rigorous coordination from procurement/supplier management, engineering and finance to work on part should cost information.
Use the teardown and benchmarking information in order to perform value analysis and value engineering
Research specific technology advances for potential application to company business needs.
Develop and maintain relationships/partnerships with Boeing internal customers, stakeholders, peers, and partners to develop collaborative plans and execute on projects.
Communicate project and lab status to Boeing management.

Desired Skills

Experience in 3-D Computer Aided Design methods and CAD tools such as CATIA and/or other design methods. Minimum 3000+ hours experience in CATIA V5.
Experience in Machined,Plastics and Sheet metal part design by using CATIA V5.
Surfacing by using CATIA Generative shape design is desired.
Processing 3D scan data with measurement/metrology software such as Polyworks, Spatial Analyzer or Verisurf.
Design of Small and Medium assembly using CATIA V5 assembly work bench.
Experience in Should costing is preferred.
Knowledge of aerospace design, manufacturing and assembly processes/techniques.
Experience with one or more of the following is required: metrology & inspection processes, computer aided measurement systems, portable measurement tools, dimensional measurement software.
Working knowledge of developing cost models and DFM. Understanding of the cost & design trades required to develop and document complex mechanical systems.
Self-starter who is not afraid to pro-actively seek information and direction to successfully complete the statement of work.
Strong written, oral, presentation and interpersonal communication skills. Be fluent in written and spoken English, and familiar with MS Office tools.
Must be able to work collaboratively with very strong teaming skills.  Must be willing to work flexible hours (early or late as needed) to interface with Boeing personnel around the world.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
5 to 10 years work experience in areas such as Catia Modeling, value engineering and reverse engineering.
Demonstrated capability and experience in performing Catia modeling by using Sketcher,Solid Modeling, Generative shape design and Assembly workbench.
