Overview

UL is seeking a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join the iON Compliance team at UL in Chicago, IL.

iON Compliance is a big data platform combining data ingest, analytics, machine learning and elements of artificial intelligence within a data lake. iON is now looking to add a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to our team to accelerate the growth of the most innovative UL digital technology investment in its history. Our goal is to enable the UL client base to effectively apply the recent developments in the digital revolution, by giving them the ability to truly leverage their own corpus of data with internal core competences and win in a rapidly evolving digital eco-system.

SUMMARY:

Supports the analysis, development, modification, testing and maintenance of cloud solution software. Supports leadership and senior development professionals in the analysis of software and hardware system needs, options, risks, costs and impact on business process and goals. Evaluates supplied software products and applications. Independently analyzes and isolates application issues and performs problem resolution.

Responsibilities

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Resolves problems by devising or modifying standard operating procedures. Considers cloud capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results when developing resolutions.

·         Independently analyzes and isolates application issues and performs problem resolution.

·         Helping to design the release package, during the service design stage of the service lifecycle, in conjunction with personnel from other teams and functions

·         Establishing the final release configuration, including knowledge, information, hardware, software and infrastructure

·         Establishing and reporting outstanding known errors and workarounds

·         Providing early life support for the deployed services

·         Logging all relevant incident/service request details, allocating categorization and prioritization codes

·         Providing first-line investigation and diagnosis

·         Resolving incidents/service requests when first contacted whenever possible

·         Escalating incidents/service requests that they cannot resolve within agreed timescales

·         Communication with users – keeping them informed of incident progress, notifying them of impending changes or agreed outages, etc.

·         Monitors progress of infrastructure and scale

·         Improves systems performance by investigating problems, developing specifications, identifying trends in technology, and recommending solutions.

·         Performs other duties as directed.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or related field

·         2+ years’ experience with data and cloud technologies

·         Hands-on experience in Microsoft Azure is strongly preferred

·         Experience with the following tools are nice to have: Cosmos DB, Azure app service, SQL server, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake
