The Role: Contract Associate Editor, Petrochemical markets

The Location: Houston, TX

The Team: Platts is seeking an experienced editor to join its Houston-based team covering petrochemicals in the Americas. The contract associate editor will be responsible for price assessments, market reporting, news and analysis of petrochemical markets, working alongside other market reporters in Houston. You are part of a global team. You are considered an SME in the industry and being a team player is very important in this role.

The Impact: You are responsible for producing the price assessments and publishing market intelligence we sell for the business. What you produce determines the impact it can have on our business.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess daily and weekly petrochemical prices for import/export and domestic markets
  • Gather commodity price information, meet compliance standards, produce price assessments, and write commentaries, stories, analyses.
  • Assess the value of prices fully in line with S&P Global Platts’ rigorous published methodologies
  • Write news stories on markets covered
  • Maintain high quality, timely and real-time feed of news and pricing
  • Work closely with news desk, managers and others to identify news stories on market issues
  • Develop, expand and maintain sources/contacts relevant to the area of coverage
  • Effectively manage and develop price reporting coverage in the region

What We’re Looking For:

  • BA or BS degree in journalism, business or sciences preferred with experience reporting/writing/analytical experience; or a graduate degree in journalism, business, economics or finance; with one year of reporting/writing/analytical work experience.
  • Displays well-rounded communication skills that implement good listening techniques, clear, concise writing style; and good verbal skills. Ability to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities internally and externally.
  • Works well in a team environment, focusing on collaboration and adapting to the needs of a diverse team. Ability to develop into subject matter expert.
  • Displays good numeracy including ability to conceptualize proportional relationships and understands the basic principles of algebra and statistics. A basic understanding of economics principles is also required.
  • Adept at managing multiple tasks and adhering to regular deadlines. Able to readjust priorities throughout the day.
  • Displays good problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities
  • Has basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and basic keyboarding skills (both speed and accuracy)
  • Serves as a source of information and perspective to colleagues in a peer advisor role. Shares the knowledge acquired with the company and answers questions.
