There is an opportunity for an experienced Senior Process Control Engineer to join Shell’s global energy company at the growing chemical manufacturing site in Geismar, LA. The Senior Process Control Engineer is responsible for the advanced process control performance in several production units within the chemical plant.  The Senior Process Control Engineer provides support to the Run and Maintain Control Systems Engineers in base layer control as the Subject Matter Expert and mentors on process control concepts, methods, and best practices.  The Senior Process Control Engineer provides support and technical assurance for the management of change process, supports the site Control Improvement Plan in accordance with Global and local long term strategies, and supports the site Custody Transfer Measurement Work Process.

The Senior Process Control Engineer manages fluctuating priorities, contributes to turnaround planning, supports advanced process control implementation and unit optimization, and promotes long term improvements in process control performance.  This includes re-evaluating control approaches and performance due to changes in plant operating conditions as well as working with production to assure support staff understands the function, capability, and limitations of controls and control systems. This requires an understanding of production priorities, work plans, procedures and goals, and how they fit with overall site plans, strategies and goals and offers guidance.

The Senior Process Control Engineer has a functional working knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems, control systems applications and hardware, process operation and theory, operational goals, safe operating variables, process constraints, key quality specifications for feeds and products, impact on the environment, and major economic variables and their impact to site profitability and goals.

The Geismar Chemical Plant’s distributed control system is Honeywell with a mix of TDC3000 and Experion hardware. Advanced multivariable controllers are deployed on most production units using Shell’s Multivariable Optimizing Control software.

Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis
  • With at least three (3) years of process automation and controls experience in a manufacturing facility
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated knowledge of practical work experience
  • Experience with Honeywell DCS (TDC3000, Experion)
  • Experience with Triconex safety system platform is a plus
  • Knowledge of safety reviews (PHA, HEMP, LOPA); participation a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience supporting base level control and instrumentation (pneumatic, electronic, DCS, etc.), including control algorithm implementation and loop tuning.
  • Knowledge of corporate policies and industry standards.
  • Effective Communication Skills (Oral/Written).
  • Able to work with diverse groups.
