Corporate – Treasury Funding – Junior Treasury Trader Analyst/Associate
The Johannesburg Junior Treasury Trader will be responsible for working closely with the local Treasurer to manage the daily funding and liquidity needs in the branch, assist in ensuring that the branch meets the Prudential Regulatory Requirements including liquid asset requirement (LAR), local asset requirement, Internal Stress and other BASEL III requirements, Real time Rand settlements and collateral needs and understanding of local ZAR currency controls.
 
The Junior Trader will be expected to understand the local balance sheet and business and risk drivers as well as interface with London CIO/T where necessary on Funding, FTP, Country, Credit, Counterparty and Market Risk limits.  
 
The role will assist in preparing information for the local ALCO and funding related meetings with Regulators.  The Junior Trader will liaise closely with the lines of business to understand the impacts on the local balance sheet to better anticipate funding and potential regulatory requirement shortfalls.
 
Additionally, the Junior Trader may be involved in the local and global implementation of Basel rules and may be asked to take on project work related to local stress-testing and ad hoc funding, liquidity and risk management projects.
   
Key responsibilities include:
  • Develop the skills and confidence to be an effective back up for the local Treasurer
  • Understand the funding flows, sourcing and deployment of funds within set risk limits to square the cash position of the Branch daily via internal and interbank trades and FX Forwards
  • Understand how changes on the balance sheet roll through and impact on the various applicable JHB Branch regulatory requirements
  • Understand the impact of trading activity on BPV risk and PnL for Corporate Treasury and be able to sign off on daily MO reporting
  • Attain a specialised knowledge and understanding of the South African Money Market
  • Assist and  execute  funding trades, such as interbank trades,  FX Forwards, as well as T-bill purchases and bilateral repos to manage local regulatory requirements while adhering to internal risk and regulatory  parameters.
  • Deal initiation, input, amendment & cancellation on the various front office trading systems utilised by JPM Corporate Treasury.
  • Support the local governance frameworks, including preparation and updates for the local ALCO and funding related regulatory meetings.
  • Assist in preparation of daily market and local funding commentary and weekly management updates on local liquidity and Treasury activity.
  • Work closely with the Regulatory Reporting, Finance, Compliance, Liquidity Risk and Market Risk teams to develop and maintain Corporate Treasury processes and regulatory reports in line with the evolving regulatory environment
  • Assist in implementing Funds Transfer Pricing and related policies locally.
  • Analyze balance sheet flows and trends, assessing impact on funding gap and liquidity risk.
  • Liaise closely with cash management, middle office and operations to  ensure accuracy of information, proper controls and timely resolution of issues.
  • Handle special ad hoc situations and requests for analysis
Technical Skills
  • Previous experience in Money Market & FX Fwd Trading in the South African Markets would be an advantage
  • Detailed knowledge of JPM Treasury Front office operating model and operating processes would be an advantage
  • Liquidity Risk and Balance Sheet management experience preferable
  • Funding and Interest Rate Risk Management experience preferable
  • Strong and clear communication skills, ability to think through and follow policies
  • Knowledge of Bloomberg market data, and Reuters dealing system
  • Strong analytical skills; excellent aptitude for numbers, attention to detail, quick learner
  • Excel in a fast paced environment

Qualification Requirements:

  1. RPE – Registered Persons Exams (Money Market)
  2. BCom or BSc equivalent degree.
