The Role

Tesla is looking for an analyst who can help improve and support software tools developed by our Internal Tools Team.   Our software tools communicate with Tesla’s physical assets – inverters, meters and gateways that monitor performance of our distributed photovoltaic and storage systems.  An operations and maintenance analyst will assist with software development, form requirements gathering and architecture, through coding, testing and deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, enhance and critique data processing techniques used by Tesla to evaluate performance and find malfunctions
  • Parse, control and manage communication with hardware used to monitor Tesla’s distributed photovoltaic and storage systems
  • Evaluate energy generation performance of photovoltaic systems and components
  • Collect, consolidate and securely store data streamed real-time from millions of renewable-energy assets
  • Collaborate on design projects and code reviews with colleagues
  • Perform comparative analyses between equipment manufacturers
  • Mine raw data to identify trends in equipment reliability, installation quality, degradation, etc.
  • Create reports and presentations for upper management, finance partners and others
  • Write scripts, macros and programs to automate routine analyses and actions

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science or relevant industry experience
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel and/or professional statistical analysis software
  • Advanced SQL skills and comprehension of complex relational database schemas
  • Exposure to the following programming languages:
    • Python/R
    • Java/JavaScript
    • C/C++/C#
  • Exposure to web technologies Django/Flask/HTML/CSS/Ajax/Ruby
  • Grasps basic concepts of electricity (AC/DC, current, voltage, resistance, power vs. energy etc.)
  • Preferred: Knowledge of energy generation systems and/or solar energy modeling
