The Role: S&P Global Market Intelligence, a best-in-class sector-focused news and financial information provider, is looking for a Director of Software Engineering to lead Software Development teams in either our Charlottesville, VA, Centennial, CO, or Princeton, NJ, New York City office.

Job Responsibilities:

This role will be responsible for driving success of our engineering teams and ensuring we maintain a common engineering and quality focus throughout the organization.

This individual will be responsible for helping define the vision, driving team execution, and overseeing the engineering process.

This will require strong leadership capabilities, as well as the ability to roll-up-your sleeves to ensure alignment across technology, product and business stakeholders.

Successful candidates should be able to:

  • Lead multiple teams that are focused on creating cutting edge products
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to the team and help them embrace change as new processes are introduced
  • Establish and maintain a high engineering bar with a rigorous, yet agile development
  • Lead and assist with the recruitment of highly motivated and driven technology talent and further develop that talent once on board
  • Be responsible for leading, design and implementation of new features and iterations of our core platform and back end processing Database systems.
  • Solve problems, analyze and isolate issues
  • Collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical partners
  • Continuously improve the architecture and quality of the code

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4+ years of engineering leadership experience – managing multiple teams and/or locations
  • Minimum 8+ years of  strong hands-on Software Engineering experience including Microsoft technologies, T-SQL, C#, ETL Systems and tools,
  • Solid understanding and experience in the Agile methodology, hands on management of agile, iterative development spanning specification, prototyping, architecture, QA, operations and support
  • Strong people management skills, proven success in recruiting, creating and motivating a strong performing engineering team.
  • Experience with any one RDBMS such as SQL Server, Oracle
  • Experience with building messaging/stream-processing systems using Kafka
  • Experience with building, supporting and migration of large scale database systems
  • Understanding of cloud platforms like AWS, Azure
  • Understanding of cloud based development methodologies and state of the art design patterns
  • Proficient with software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies like Agile, Test- driven development.
  • Experience implementing: Web Services (with WCF, RESTful JSON, SOAP, TCP), Windows Services, and Unit Tests
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science
