Job Summary:

The Environmental, Health, Safety (EHS) & Facilities Leader is responsible to manage and lead the EH&S function, providing strategic and tactical direction, leadership, and technical support to advance EH&S requirements in conjunction with Ingersoll Rand requirements.  Further, this role is responsible for leading our site Facilities Management activities.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Actively lead continuous improvement by managing activities to assure compliance with critical EHS programs while building established EHS culture.
  • Achieve Compliance with all OSHA, EPA and other regulatory agencies. Ensure systems are in place to address and monitor on a regular basis.
  • Talent Management – recruit, develop, train and motivate while generating a team approach with EHS and operations.
  • Provide timely and effective communication with senior leadership, site leaders, staff and associates.
  • Provide professional problem solving input to both short term and long term issues.
  • Manage and provide recommendations on EH&S resource requirements.
  • Support facilities projects through direct leadership of a Facilities technician
  • Manage EHS and Facilities spend for the site
  • Implement reduction of work site incidents/accidents in alignment with EH&S reduction goals including performance of root cause analysis on accidents and injuries to determine specific actions needed to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Provide timely information and guidance for the leadership including EH&S performance trends, root cause corrective actions for injuries and near misses; and support in development and implementation of strategic action plans to achieve the company goal of achieving and maintaining a hazard free work place, injury free employees, and an unmatched commitment to compliance pollution prevention.
  • Support employee engagement around EH&S and other key initiatives of the leadership team.
  • Monitor/audit EHS groups and advise as necessary throughout the plants.
  • Manage and implement the EHS Management System requirements.
  • Utilize most cost effective means to remain current on information, legislation, and technical advances within EHS and understand their impact on assigned operations.
  • Responsible for Safety budget, EHS balanced scorecard, and performance to plan.
  • Establish and maintain facility specific management plans for hazardous waste and non-hazardous materials.
  • Maintain all environmental reports, permits and recordkeeping requirements to operate the site.
  • Implementation and management of all environmental issues related to the production operations and activities
  • Provide guidance in complying with all regulatory requirements (Federal, State, and local), company policies, and the Company’s Environmental, Health and Safety Management System
  • Manage all necessary environmental permits along with ensuring all site personnel have the appropriate environmental training in accordance with all legal and other requirements
  • Coordinate site environmental risk assessments and activities to understand and prioritize activities for the site
  • Lead site Behavior Based Safety Program
  • Development of Site Specific EHS programs
  • Provide oversight of site’s Electrical Safety and LOTO program
  • Review and update environmental procedures and policies as required by site activities and risks
  • Ensure that all required documentation and records are maintained and available as required
  • Assist in preparation and required communication of site contingency, emergency and risk prevention plans
  • Ensure compliance with all air, water, waste, transportation and chemical programs as required
  • Provide environmental assistance and guidance to operations personnel during spill and emergency response drills and potential actual events
  • Participate and lead incident investigations, root cause analyses and development of effective corrective actions, and reporting of EHS issues
  • Organize and manage teams to identify and implement waste reductions and resource conservation.
  • Drive actions to meet or exceed EHS Goals

Skills/Competencies:

  • Conduct periodic safety and health walk-through inspection of all workplace facilities and machinery to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance
  • Conduct assessments and Job Hazard Analysis to improve work processes
  • Participate in audits associated with the company audit standard and target program initiative
  • Assure proper reporting and record-keeping practices are consistently followed
  • Collect, compile, and analyze key internal EHS data (incidents, property damage, training, audits) and create action oriented reports for Operations and Maintenance teams
  • Prepare and provide training material, in conjunction with Corporate EHS including relevant work process, OSHA Compliance topics. Provide to all workers per the established training calendar.
  • Participate in BBS Observations, provide technical advice, coaching and guidance on safety initiatives
  • Contractor management and facilitation
  • Project management
  • Conducting, reviewing and submitting in-depth incident investigations which provide rigorous feedback to ensure root-cause ID and corrective measures are implemented
  • Must possess a working knowledge of assembly operations and or production operations and support activities
  • Must be able to identify and implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process hazards and raise safety awareness
  • The successful candidate must have good written and verbal skills and the ability to influence and motivate people
  • Must be able to build trust and confidence with all levels of the organization
  • Must be proficient in MS Office products.
  • Must be able to drive for continuous improvement and support 5S+ initiatives for a Zero Incident Culture

 

Education/Training/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably with an Environmental, Health and Safety focus.
  • 3-5+ years of progressive EHS experience, with 3+ years in a Supervisory or Manager capacity.
  • Prior Facilities Management experience
  • Knowledge of NC State and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA and possibly DOT) and experience with permitting issues, data collection and reporting
  • Knowledge of general industry concepts, practices & procedures
  • Capable of identifying known or potential exposures and recommending corrective actions in conjunction with Corporate EHS support and guidance.
