Role Summary:

The Electronic Component Engineer will be responsible for all component engineering activities including database support within the SAS department.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage the company’s internal component databases, including maintenance and
    improvements
  • Use of Microsoft Access Database to analyse the data
  • Experience with Omnify or similar PLM Systems
  • Supply approved component information to sourcing and R&D, managing access and
    ensuring accuracy on data input from other engineers
  • Support the REACH, RoHS and conflict minerals programs
  • Experience with a REACH/RoHS compliance analytical program such as PTC Windchill
    Product Analytic
  • Expert use of IHS database or equivalent and supplying End of Life (EOL) studies on current
    production on a quarterly basis from this tool
  • Supply new component numbers and reports when requested to R&D, POST and other
    departments
  • Check on the availability of other sources and acquiring samples when needed
  • Liaise with engineers when specific components need to be tested
  • Component failure and trend analysis for components failing in the field and in manufacturing
  • Action and manage change information, including acquiring external department approvals
  • Support other team members of POST and R&D with component information including Fault
    analysis
  • Support 8D ‘red-alert’ production issue meetings on component related issues
  • Complete or manage (where necessary) PCB datapack updates as directed by design/post
    design engineering
  • Manage and complete actions assigned from the support central management tool

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • University degree in Electronic Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years’ experience with hardware design and component selection
  • Strong knowledge of component failure modes
  • Prior experience with new product development cycles
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate teams
  • Ability to communicate with suppliers and follow up on end of life cases
  • Excellent written and verbal communication

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with setting up PLM systems, licensing and development environment for
    embedded hardware, software and firmware systems
  • Exposure to Hardware, Firmware and Software architectures of PLC’s, protection and control
    relays, gateways and data concentrators
  • Previous experience with PLM migration, part numbering schemes
