The Role: Sr Engineer, Database Engineering

The Location:Charlottesville or Richmond, VA; Halifax, NS, Canada

The Impact:We are looking for an individual that can help build a future state enterprise data architecture that supports our visionary technology strategy. You will be working with a dedicated team responsible for refining that vision and leading the extension of our proprietary Data Management System to additional NoSQL and relational data technologies to ensure we are working towards said vision. You will take a role in establishing, maintaining, and evolving the reference architecture state through collaboration with cross-functional teams across the business.

Responsibilities:

  • You will have the opportunity to be very autonomous, self-driven, able to navigate and lead through ambiguity
  • You excel at articulating complex topics to the layman (understands audience and speaks to be understood)
  • Experience with crafting and operating scalable, resilient, highly-available services
  • You have a deep understanding and appreciation of both machine-readable standards and master data management (MDM)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to design complete database systems
  • Ability to propose appropriate solutions and to effectively decide between alternative solutions to problems which leverage advanced database concepts
  • Exhibits strong project management skills (estimation, identifying risks/bottlenecks to appropriate parties, communicating these to team and stakeholders appropriately).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, effectively providing estimates when needed and anticipating risks/bottlenecks (especially extra-departmental)
  • Experience working in an SOA framework
  • Experience with NoSQL and Graph/Ontology data modeling
  • Experience with API development and management
  • Experience working in agile scrum environment
  • 4+ years of hands-on, enterprise data architecture experience
