Role Summary:

The Lead Design Engineer will be responsible for the design of hydro generator mechanical components for installed based projects that meet Customer and Product needs with expected cost, quality and schedule. He/she will also be responsible to give technical support to other business functional teams related to hydro generators, specially to Supply Chain and Construction & Commissioning.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • He/she will utilize their expertise to participate and contribute on the Engineering department and business wide continuous improvement and simplification processes
  • Deliver work packages for installed based projects or programs using technical guidelines, feedback of experience (FOE)
  • Prepare design calculations, technical specifications, drawings (2D & 3D) and BOM’s
  • Close collaboration with Consulting/Principal Engineers and System Integrators
  • Monitoring progress, budget and quality levels of the projects together with the System Integrator
  • Work together with Supply Chain and C&C in order to determine best fit to existing industrial and erection constrains
  • Continuously challenges self and team skills in functional area. Stays current with industry developments in one’s field of expertise
  • Active participation in short and long-term function and/or business goals
  • Implement safety, quality, reliability and cost effectiveness in design
  • Work within the guidelines of applicable GE Policies & Procedures, Engineering Standards, Specifications, Government and Commercial Standards, and special security requirements
  • Collaborate with other engineering COEs (Center Of Excellence) worldwide
  • Drive global team development through communication, partnering and mentoring
  • Participate in design review meetings with other COEs and consulting Engineers
  • Provide technical leadership for team members in the form of training, mentoring, talent development, and work verification

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent knowledge or experience
  • Experience in electrical rotating machines
  • Significant experience in mechanical engineering
  • Good skills in 2D/3D CAD tools
  • Pro-activeness, sense of urgency, autonomy
  • Good communication skills
  • Focus on continuous improvement and simplification
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-locational environment
  • Ability to work and coordinate several projects simultaneously
  • Effective problem identification and solution skills
  • Good analytical skills
  • Team player, positive, willingness to learn & adapt to business needs
  • Ability to travel
  • Fluent in English (speaking and writing)

Desired Characteristics:

  • Valuable experience in Hydro mechanical engineering is an asset
  • Bilingual German and English, French a plus
  • Knowledge in PLM tools: Enovia
  • Knowledge of specific CAD tools
    • 2D: Autocad Mechanical
    • 3D: NX
