Netflix is quickly growing into one of the world’s most prolific entertainment studios in the world, with over 900 original productions slated for 2020.  As Netflix creates more and more programming around the world, we are scaling to support the needs of diverse creative teams while continuing to foster industry-wide change. To support Netflix’s large scale, global production slate, we are looking for a Visual Effects Production Workflow Manager to join our VFX Infrastructure, Technology & Operation team to provide guidance for workflow and technology solutions to our external production partners.
The Visual Effects Production Workflow Manager will oversee our overall strategy to connect our internal Netflix VFX and cross-functional support teams to our external production partners in order to better understand and solve for the needs of our productions. You will oversee the “Show Experience“ to create best practices, workflows and tools while driving new industry standards and staying up-to-date with the developments on production-side infrastructure and technology. You will be the subject matter expert on production-facing workflows while helping to educate our shows to emerging Netflix applications that directly support VFX.
To be successful in this opportunity, you’ll need to have an understanding of VFX/production/post production, specializing in both production-side and vendor-side VFX workflows and infrastructure. We’re looking for a great candidate that has the ability to synthesize existing VFX workflow challenges and collaborate with our internal product, design, and engineering teams to introduce new solutions that can improve, innovate, and potentially disrupt existing workflows.

As part of the VFX Infrastructure, Technology & Operations team you will:

  • Work with dedicated internal VFX support teams to provide strategy and guidance to develop the best practices and standards that will guide VFX production side operational/logistical workflows for Netflix Originals.
  • Evolve VFX workflows, tools and standards to leverage new creative, operational and technical opportunities for our production partners.
  • Align with internal stakeholders to formalize and educate external teams on Netflix Originals technical specifications and production best practices for VFX.
  • Provide support and guidance to productions exploring new techniques and technologies.
  • Align with our IT teams to evaluate and form strategic partnerships with various VFX hardware/software service providers to align them to our strategies and requirements.
  • Work closely with Netflix product, design, and engineering teams to create tools that facilitate efficiencies and standardization around VFX production management, status reporting, review and archive.
  • Devise and execute strategies to achieve our production goals, improve efficiency and foster the evolution of VFX industry practices.
  • Help to standardize and document best practices for our VFX production partners.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of production/vendor facing visual effects experience a must.
  • Experience with Shotgun/RV, Cinesync and Filemaker.
  • Understanding of current 4K VFX creation and delivery workflows and how technology is used (and could be used in the future) to facilitate best practices.
  • The communication skills to clearly articulate and document technical concepts and explain how they impact the creative process.
  • Working knowledge of various file formats used in VFX.
  • Prior experience with production-side delivery in a VFX production environment.
  • Working knowledge of data management and content security best practices.
  • Knowledge of and relationships with technology solutions, equipment and service vendors in the VFX space.
  • Knowledge of VFX archival practices.
