Job Overview

Assists in evaluating and certifying metrology laboratory standards and maintenance and test equipment (M&TE).  Physically inspect for damage and review documentation on calibrated M&TE equipment returning from vendor calibration.  Performs assigned duties, under direct supervision.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties 1-14 will be performed assisting a higher-level Met Lab Technician and/or under direct supervision until such time as qualified to perform on own.

  1. Analyze and certify the nuclear Station M&TE in accordance with regulatory and industry standard practices as defined in the appropriate procedures and policies.
  2. Provide metrology laboratory services in electronics, time and frequency, temperature, pressure, mass, force, and vibration, sound, light and flow disciplines.
  3. Performs assigned duties in accordance with approved plant procedures, accepted radiation protection practices, regulatory policies, the Quality Assurance Program, and safety rules and regulations.
  4. Participates in and successfully completes plant and Instrumentation and Control Department training programs; continues participation in training programs to maintain proficiency.
  5. Analyze the traceability of Metrology Laboratory Standards to assure conformance to licensing requirements.
  6. Write, evaluate and maintain calibration procedures for M&TE and laboratory standards.
  7. Participates in non-routine activities such as unscheduled outages, refueling and special projects, and response to plant transients/emergent work that require the participation of the Instrumentation and Control Department.
  8. Audit company metrology laboratories to assess technical conformance to licensing requirements, governmental and industrial standards, specifications and procedures.  Provide technical evaluations and analysis of vendors and their equipment.
  9. Design and coordinate the construction of special test equipment.
  10. Provide users of M&TE with technical information on usage, capabilities and correct application of M&TE.
  11. Assist in the development and/or maintenance of computer programs for automated test equipment.
  12. Evaluate and analyze technical data and results, and develop written reports and recommendations.
  13. Plan and coordinate special testing projects.
  14. Verify technical validity of metrology records and M&TE results.
  15. Maintain and enhance knowledge of state-of-art metrology technology, techniques and equipment.
  16. Routinely contact vendors and manufacturers to discuss technical problems and provide recommendations.
  17. Recommends the termination of any Instrumentation and Control activity which is not being carried out in accordance with applicable procedures, specifications, regulations, requirements, or accepted practices.
  18. Recommends the termination of any plant activity which jeopardizes personnel safety, plant equipment, or continued power generation.
  19. Required to be a member of the Seabrook Station Emergency Response Organization (ERO), when assigned, and to adhere to all related requirements specified in the Seabrook Station Radiological Emergency Plan.  These requirements include, but are not limited to, maintaining applicable ERO position qualifications, participation in drills and exercises, and responding to an actual emergency (including radiological).
  20. Required to participate in major outages, when assigned, by performing a designated outage position, and maintaining required training qualifications.  An outage assignment may involve shiftwork and/or working extended hours outside of normal schedule.
  21. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

Required Qualification

  • Successful completion of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) aptitude test required.
  • Associate’s Degree in a technical field or related field or equivalent education and/or experience.  Education should include classes in oral and written communications, technical writing, mathematics, physical sciences and computer sciences.  Zero to one year of related experience in a recognized metrology laboratory (vocational school, apprentice time, on-the job, etc.) (Reference ANSI/ANS 3.1-1993)
