Role Outline/Responsibilities:
 
Client Overview:
 
As part of the Responsible Designer for the Hinkley Point C project, our Client provides Engineering Design support for the Balance of the Nuclear Island (BNI). 
 
This role is a member of a large integrated team seconded into Client team focused on providing high quality design, engineering knowledge & expertise.
 
Assignment Scope:
 
The Piping Calculation Engineer is responsible for the flexibility analysis of piping networks and/or the piping, HVAC and electrical cable trays static calculation. 
 
The role involves calculations for new piping networks as well as specific UK adaptations for existing networks from former EPR projects. Harmonisation of methods and transfer of information with teams in France is required.

Main Activities:
 
Using extracts from the 3D model the piping calculation engineer:
 
• Verifies, through calculations, the strength of the pipework under various sets of conditions (normal, upset, emergency and accident) and verifies the regulation criteria associated with these conditions
• Verifies the flexibility of the pipe runs and the forces transmitted to the various elements and in particular to the components and supports
• Prepares the corresponding final design calculation reports
• Writes the loading description reports
• Provides the loads on the supports to the support’s calculation team
• Assists layout engineers for the technical validation of important pipe routing modification
• May take part to surveillance activities for contracts managed by the Client
and/or
• With input of the pipe stress calculation pipe clamp, support structure and anchor plates needing to be verified with ROBOT or RSTAB, 
• Structure of HVAC and Cable Trays needing to be verified with RSTAB or ROBOT in accordance to project procedures
 
Key Relationships:
 
The Piping Calculation Engineer reports to the Piping Calculation Group Leader.
 
They work collaboratively with piping design engineers, piping CAD designers as well as with the layout & systems teams in the UK and France.

Qualifications

 

Essential:
 
• Mechanical engineering degree
• Knowledge of piping design and calculation 
• Good ability to work with a 3D model and various tools
• PDMS (consultation and reporting) 
• Use of a piping calculation software
• Ability to use MS Office / MS Project
• Good communication and interpersonal skills 
• Ability to work in a team as well as on own initiative 
• Results focused with the ability to meet commitments & deadlines
• Highly organised with attention to detail
• Fluent in English – written & verbal
 
Desirable:
 
• Knowledge of regulations EN 13480 or ASME, RCC-M, EUROCODE and ETC-C is advantageous
• Experience in PWR design  
• Experience in previous EPR or other nuclear projects 
• Experience of working in a fast pace engineering project environment
• French language skills – written & verbal

Security Clearance:
 
• BPSS level clearance required
 
Accepting candidates: Graduate / Junior / Engineer level experience
