As part of Coursera’s Legal and Compliance (“L&C”) team, you will play a key role in increasing global access to a world-class education.
We’re looking to hire an intelligent, organized, and energetic Product and Privacy Compliance Manager to support  certain regulatory and privacy compliance obligations of Coursera’s products and to manage related contracts. A critical part of this role is to understand the priorities of the Company and the L&C Department to effectively prioritize time and attention and serve as a reliable point of contact for internal and external parties. You will join a growing legal team to help build Coursera’s business lines, and work across the organization (including engineering, product, security, enterprise, and content partnerships) in service of Coursera’s growth and long-term success. A background and knowledge in regulatory frameworks, privacy, and product is a plus. Your ability to exercise both sound judgement and discretion is key.You care deeply about user trust, you have excellent organizational program management skills, and can bridge the gap between L&C and cross-functional teams. You’ll interact with teams to develop deep insights into the mechanics of how Coursera Product teams incorporate privacy-by-design into their engineering lifecycles. You will monitor privacy control governance and the regulatory landscape and look for ways to improve our ability to measure and report on effectiveness. You will work closely with teams to analyze, define and verify current and future control solutions to manage risk across Coursera’s products and services.

Your responsibilities:

    • Draft, review, and/or negotiate a variety of agreements, including vendor contracts, NDAs, and data protection addenda.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage and handle customer requests such as security, privacy, and vendor registration forms
    • Provide interpretation of regulatory requirements and guidance on legal and business risks as well as providing creative solutions to potential issues for Coursera services and products
    • Research compliance issues for our products and services
    • Undertake and manage projects as required to develop process improvement programs, including enhancing our privacy compliance program
    • Provide assistance to our global business teams, including competence in navigating different cultural and legal norms around the world
    • Manage Copyrights and Trademarks portfolio to ensure matters and filings are up to date and in compliance
    • Assist the legal team’s efforts in the preparation, promotion, implementation, and refinement of policies, systems, processes, and procedures to meet compliance and regulatory obligations
    • Obtain and maintain a strong knowledge of the company, its mission, strategy, and values, its product and service offerings, its internal policies, and the objectives of supported business units
    • Handle special projects as required or requested

Your skills:

  • JD preferred
  • 2+ years in a corporate law department
  • Demonstrated experience in privacy and regulatory compliance, and working with product, engineering, and business teams.   Ability to translate legal requirements into requirements to be implemented by the aforementioned teams.
  • Familiarity with working on regulatory laws and developments in both US and international jurisdictions.
  • Excellent organizational skills, research skills, keen attention to detail, and unfailing follow-up to effectively manage multiple activities of varying difficulty, priority and complexity with a short turnaround time
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical and creative-problem solving abilities, excellent interpersonal and operational skills
  • Strong sense of accountability, integrity and taking ownership over projects and responsibilities and resolving issues proactively
  • A record of past achievement, including the ability to spearhead process creation and improvement
  • Entrepreneurial drive and comfort working in ambiguous, quickly-changing environments
  • Outstanding ability to collaborate, understand, and communicate with others
  • Experience using Google Drive, DocuSign, Microsoft Office Suite
