Position Specific Description

Electric Quarterly Reports (EQRs) contain interstate wholesale power sales data that is required to be reported to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).  Accurate and timely reporting is:

  • a critical aspect of FERC’s monitoring wholesale electricity activities in the market;
  • a condition of maintaining FERC approval to sell power at market based rates; and
  • reflective of the effectiveness of NEE’s overall compliance program.

This role is responsible for supporting management in the accurate content and timely filing of EQRs to FERC.   Key attributes to be successful in this role include the ability to apply analytical judgements in a wide variety of circumstances, communicate with diverse business units, understand complex IT systems and have a sense of urgency and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances as needed.

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Understand energy markets and apply FERC rules and principles
    • Apply a combination of very specific FERC rules as well as principal based concepts (e.g., Transparency; Fairness of Markets) to EQR reporting
    • Comprehend varied, complicated contracts and apply rules and concepts to determine what to report to FERC (judgement/analytical)
    • Develop expansive knowledge of energy trading, ISO Markets and apply this knowledge to energy transaction reporting (judgement/analytical)
    • Identify issues in data and resolve using FERC and system knowledge
  • Understand and work within a complex system environment
    • Understand complexities of an in-house developed trading system that interfaces with and in-house FERC Reporting Tool (system knowledge)
    • Perform and document user acceptance testing (analytical, communication)
    • Maintain system guidance documentation for FERC Reporting Tool (communication/writing skills)
  • Interface with various departmental personnel including Trading, IT, Accounting, Business Management, Transmission, Legal, etc. (judgement/analytical/communication)
    • understanding transactions to determine reportability (communication/judgement)
    • initial set up of invoicing in accounting system (communication/analytical)
  • Maintain EQR guidance documentation (Policies/Procedures, Desktops, EQR Definitions Guide, Systems Guide) (communication/writing skills)
  • Appreciation for and ability to work under tight deadlines and a strong sense of urgency
  • Identify continuous improvement through process reductions and automation
  • Assist the FERC Compliance team on other FERC matters as time allows

Job Overview

This job is responsible for assisting in the management and coordination the Company’s compliance activities. Employees in this job provide interpretive guidance and training; and oversee the development of business unit controls for new regulations or new business initiatives.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

•   Ensures content of compliance policies and procedures are up-to-date
•   Maintains the Companys compliance intranet site as an education and informational sharing tool
•   Assists managers in the development and delivery of compliance training
•   Maintains all electronic files, reports, filed documents, etc. related to compliance activities
•   Monitors compliance activities at regulatory agencies and informs managers, directors, and business units
•   Communicates new or revised compliance documentation
•   Provides oversight, analysis and guidance to employees and/or business units
•   Prepares Executive Management Reports
•   Performs spot checks of business unit controls, analyzes and presents results
•   Conducts benchmarking research on best practices
•   Works with the appropriate departments to gain agreement, makes changes, and revises the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics or Senior Officer Code as necessary
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

•  High School Grad / GED
•  Bachelor’s Degree
•  Experience:5+ years
