Role Summary:

We are seeking a Control System engineer with demonstrated design and evaluation expertise to join the Controls & Operability team, within the Onshore Wind Land Constrained product segment.

Essential Responsibilities:

The Senior Controls Engineer is an integral part of the wind product and design process. It is a key role for the Control software development and participates in all its phases. The broad scope of responsibility provides an opportunity to optimize turbine availability, reliability, operability, performance and safety
Participate in all phases of Control software development from requirements analysis, control design and development and finally product sustaining / support
Taking design ownership of Wind Turbine Generator systems control strategies and systems
Utilize First Principles methodologies to ensure physics-based control of Wind Turbine Generators
Compile, develop and document requirements for Wind Turbine controls features and components
Lead the development of Wind Turbine controls strategy for optimal operability, reliability, availability and protection
Define and maintain control of the safety aspects of the Wind Turbine system
Support product development programs design review discussions and present relevant design details to chief engineers for evaluation and approval
Investigate and resolve critical controls related fleet issues; identify & implement improvements in the controls strategies based on lessons learned on field

Qualifications/Requirements:

BS/MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar field with Wind Energy emphasis preferred or equivalent knowledge or experience
Extensive experience in Wind Turbine Control system design and validation (SIL, PIL, HIL)
Track record of leading successfully control developments within new product/technology introduction programs
Broad knowledge of Wind Turbine Generator physical principles
Knowledgeable in wind turbine certification, including IEC and GL requirements
Self-starter, who delivers results with minimal supervision. Able to supervise/train others
Proven Proficiency in Matlab – Simulink
Ability to succeed in a global team environment
Team player with strong communication skills
Fluent in English (spoken and written
EU Work Permit

Desired Characteristics:

Advanced Degree (Master/PhD) in Mechanical/Controls/Electrical engineering or similar field
Experienced in modeling and simulating wind turbines in computer simulation codes, such as ADAMS, Bladed, Flex5, and FAST, Simulink or equivalent industry simulation tools
Experienced in validation of wind turbine simulation codes in comparison to measurement data
Experience in modeling, controls, dynamics, testing, and design of wind turbines
Experience with GE Mark VIe controller or similar real-time control system
Ability to code in at least one programming language such as C or Delphi
Understanding of security aspects of software and networks
Understanding of electric utility transmission and distribution systems
Greenbelt (internal GE) or Equivalent quality training
Willingness to travel occasionally
