The Associated Press seeks a Senior Internal Communications Associate to join its corporate communications team based in its global headquarters in New York.

Role & Responsibilities:

The Senior Communications Associate will be responsible for the development of digital content for AP’s communications channels. They will manage the AP intranet and be familiar with SEO and information architecture, digital media management and analytics.

The successful candidate will possess a blend of production, storytelling and communication skills, as well as a deep understanding of best practices for web, social media and video platforms. Managing content, publishing assets and troubleshooting for AP’s intranet, and contributing to key internal communications initiatives across the company will be an essential function of this role.  Designing and contributing to internal newsletters and other communications is also required.

The Senior Communications Assoicate will understand the AP brand and design elements and conceptualize, produce, film and edit video and digital content that supports company initiatives on AP’s digital platforms, including The Definitive Source corporate blog, ap.org and the intranet. They will also maintain existing vendor relations to provide and manage solutions for internal communication and AV needs.

The Senior Communications Associate will play a key role in company events and must be well-versed in collaborating with colleagues in other departments, including editorial, media relations, marketing, technology, HR and others.

Reports to the Global Director, Media Relations & Corporate Communications.

Qualifications:

  • Communications degree or similar and 3-5 years professional experience is required
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • the Adobe suite, particularly Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Audition
    • editing images and graphics for use online and in video
    • web/digital technologies, software and applications
    • operating DSLR cameras and/or video cameras
    • production lighting principles
    • sound recording and mixing
  • Experience managing intranets
  • Experience managing online video channels and digital media
  • Experience working with content management systems and various publishing environments for websites and intranets
  • Deep knowledge of current social media platforms and best practices
  • Knowledge of coding for the web and email
  • Excellent design and UI skills
  • Familiarity with analytics tools and reporting, eg: Google Analytics, and social media tools
  • Strong understanding of file/asset management (e.g. ZIP, FTP, etc.)
  • Team player with excellent collaboration skills
  • A self-motivated, positive and collaborative attitude with the ability to coordinate with users in multiple departments, vendors, consultants and technical support personnel
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to work under deadline on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Authorization to work in the U.S. will be mandatory.  Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English is required.
