Job Description

Emerging Technologies (ET)  is an enabling capability with advanced research  skills and capabilities to deliver innovation to existing line of Shell  businesses as well as long range research areas which involves research in key themes with an intent to identify opportunities in energy transition. In Chemical lead generation program, we look at process  as well as chemistry innovations for developing new technology routes for existing molecules,  delivering  new molecules and new intermediates aligned with chemicals technology strategy. In long range research, we conduct exploratory as well as explanatory research in areas like dense energy carriers, methane to products and CO2 capture and conversions and various novel conversion technologies which are all aligned with the broader theme of energy transition. Purpose of ET is to shape up ideas which are in early stages of development in above areas through experimentation and feed them into the technology funnel for sustained innovation and value delivery.

Purpose of current team lead role is to lead a team of researchers  working in above areas  to deliver the above stated objectives while driving seamless collaboration cutting across the organization for speed & robust  deliveries.  

Accountabilities
This is a hybrid  role with accountabilities around content delivery and people management. Team lead in this role is responsible for end to end delivery of certain programs, while being accountable for deliveries from the team he/she leads. 

Technical Deliveries

  • Ideate, define and deliver early stage research in areas of chemicals, new intermediates and new process routes for existing molecules.
  • Defining exploratory and explanatory research programs in new energy areas covering CO2, Dense Energy carriers, methane valorization etc., in close collaboration with key stake-holders, businesses  to develop technology options for Shell businesses.
  • Appling fundamental principles of sciences and engineering in designing experimental activities, data interpretation and drawing conclusions.
  • Keeping abreast with relevant technology areas to define program direction and content. 
  • Ensure that all HSE, Group, Regulatory, Quality and other appropriate standards are complied with.

Organizational

  • Leading a team of researchers for effective and efficient management and delivery of Chemical lead generation as well as long range research programs.
  • Effectively managing interfaces with Long range research, Process evaluations, Process development and other partnering groups for timely actions and prioritization.
  • Driving effective resource and project management for Speed & delivery.
  •  Coaching & mentoring team members for skill development & growth. Deep skills development for sustained competency and robustness of deliveries.
  • Accountable for delivering programs within budgets, meeting Shell quality standards.

Requirements

  • Lead team of approx. 4-8 people: consisting of experimentalists, research engineers & Scientists. Staff will be positioned in STCB, Bangalore, India. 
  • Interface with key collaborators,  including  LRR, existing line of businesses.
  • Strong cross collaboration with researchers in other Shell locations for co-creation and co-development of ideas.
  • Seamless engagement with process development, process evaluations teams & strategy
  • Defining & leading external technology programs with institutes and academia.
  • This is a hybrid role with both people as well as content delivery responsibilities
