Messenger’s mission is to deliver an engaging, fast, and dependable experience across multiple surfaces. The Messenger Foundations infrastructure team, located at the Facebook Menlo Park office, aligns to this mission by creating the building blocks that powers Facebook’s messaging app platform for billions of users every day. We need help building & scaling this platform, making it rock solid, and helping enable new, innovative experiences across the Facebook family of apps.
We are seeking a proactive Technical Program Manager for our Foundations team in Messenger who can build a Facebook messaging infra platform. We are bold on innovation as a key focus as we figure out new and better ways to do things, leaving the status quo in the dust. A strong candidate has experience building out key partner scenarios, prioritization of requirements, and roadmapping as well as executing towards solutions across client & server components. You will closely partner with engineering team on understanding and representing the messaging platform tech stack.
An ideal candidate will have a strong background in mobile along with both product & infrastructure experience. You show expertise in identifying customers’ diverse unmet needs, use data & partnerships to guide decision making, and deliver on client infrastructure to power a diversity of product experiences. You also have proven to go deep into mobile client architecture & infrastructure along with a solid understanding of transport and server processing. You will be expected to be a highly effective communicator, articulate & implement a clear direction in both product & technical dimensions, and build strong partnerships across cross-functional teams at Facebook. You will be partnering with some the world’s foremost Engineers, Data Scientists, and Product Managers on a regular basis to measurably move the needle on bringing people closer together — worldwide.
As peer to Engineering Leads, Managers and Product Managers, you will heavily contribute to planning and strategy, decision making, execution, evangelism, aligning across teams & disciplines, representing the voice of the customer, industry trends & direction including competitive stance, and expected to shine as a valuable & influential member of the team. New hires in this role go through Engineering Bootcamp and are able to build an overarching understanding of the whole system architecture.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deeply understand product position & technical infrastructure including end-to-end system from client app scenarios through service pipeline details
  • Lead cross-functional partnerships with Engineering, Data Science, and Product Management to define the team’s strategy & direction
  • Articulate the experiences, technology, requirements, goals & milestones of your team
  • Define and own key metrics and key performance indicators
  • Identifying cross-team dependencies, risks, align timelines
  • Bring a strong sense of execution, ownership, and accountability to the team
  • Make your area come alive with demos, training sessions/tutorials, and articles/wikis, and other methods of evangelizing the platform
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • B.S. in CS or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of mobile infrastructure (or similar) including program management experience
  • Web or Internet start-up environment and mobile infrastructure management experience
  • Communication experience and experience working with technical and leadership teams
  • Organizational and coordination experience
  • Interpersonal experience, including relationship building and collaboration within a cross-functional team
  • Analytical and problem-solving experience
  • Experience using data and insights to prioritize investments and opportunities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working on a large-scale environment
