The Chemically Produced Toner (CPT) product engineer in Boulder works on site supporting the development needs for new toner characteristics and properties. Works closely with global teams during new printer product development, scale up of products from lab to manufacturing. Key element to position is the ability to drive technology forward while keeping focus on total cost in support of the Lexmark printer business and its development. Uses skills in the areas of heat and mass transfer, fluid dynamics, kinetics, thermodynamics and chemistry. Develops and designs processes and equipment involving chemical engineering unit operations.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work to create and implement specific development practices including:

  • Material selection, optimization and scale up – generally done in close collaboration with the engineering groups in Lexington, KY
  • Toner formulation definition, refinement, optimization and scale up in the context of the targeted EP system for the optimal balance of program performance, regulatory compliance, overall CPT manufacturing cost and specific program product cost. Responsibility to support formulation investigations, qualifications and continuity of supply issues continues from cradle to grave for CPT products.
  • Continually monitoring existing toner performance and help guide the team to improve both function and cost. Responsibility includes providing product engineering support to the toner manufacturing plant.
  • CPT Business analysis capability and the drive to enable evolving CPT strategy with the greater toner team is a key deliverable.
  • Ability to work closely with printer program development teams to drive the technology forward to enable highest level of system function and customer loyalty at the lowest total cost of delivery. Expected to regularly interface with technical, manufacturing and leadership staff.

  • Ability to develop and strengthen relationship with WW development teams.
  • Willingness to assume other special activities, responsibilities, and special projects as required to improve overall development organization.

EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND:

  • Experience with managing projects with multi-disciplined team members and levels.
  • A minimum of two to five (2-5) years development experience, preferably in printer / supplies / materials development
  • Experience with the delivery of innovative products through the use of technology and materials.
  • Experience in documenting current and future state environment and business processes and cost elements.
  • Strong focus on the customer and the operational aspects of the business
  • Strong statistical analysis and excel based skills

EDUCATION:

Preferred education and experience:

  • BS/MS degree in Chemical Engineering and 2+ years of experience or an equivalent combination of education, skills and experience.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated product scale-up is a plus.
