Facebook is seeking a Director of Communications to run our communications in the Middle East, Turkey & Africa.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about Facebook, has good tech industry understanding, is an excellent writer, with significant experience in developing and executing high-profile communications initiatives that can enhance the reputation of the company. To be truly successful in this position, the ideal candidate must be a strong people leader, able to influence and operate at a senior level in the region and have deep knowledge and awareness of the various issues and opportunities across the Middle East & Africa. You’ll have extensive experience ideally across both Middle East & Africa, a considerable network in the region as well as some experience of working in other markets. What’s more, you’ll thrive in a demanding fast-moving environment.
You will have a deep understanding of how communications can work most effectively with the business, marketing and policy teams and you will have good interpersonal skills that enable you to work with our partners across the company both in EMEA and in the US. You will have strong experience in executing high-profile communications initiatives as well as intimate knowledge of how reporters work, and you are an excellent writer in English, with additional regional languages a plus, but not essential.
The role requires creating and managing proactive and reactive communications from planning to execution. You will manage a small team across the region and become part of the Middle East, Turkey & Africa leadership team reporting to the Vice President of Communications for EMEA. You will need to work closely with the US communication team and hand in hand with the specialist EMEA central communications team. This position is full-time and is located in Facebook’s (London) office, but will require some travel.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ability to navigate complex organizational structures and educate stakeholders about the region
  • Oversee and manage a budget and a small but high caliber team
  • Excellent leadership skills with proven experience of leading and developing a high-performing team
  • Operate as a key member of the EMEA Leadership Team, contributing to the overarching strategy of the function whilst making a positive impact on executing proactive communications campaigns across the region
  • Represent Facebook at a senior level both internally and externally, communicating Facebook’s position on key communications issues
  • Deliver innovative communication strategies and campaigns that improve the reputation of the company with consumers, business and opinion formers
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners to ensure effective collaboration and driving key strategic outcomes for the region
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree and the ability to apply relevant knowledge from this field to communications
  • Significant professional experience across Middle East, Turkey & Africa in communications or public relations, at a senior level, both agency and in-house preferred
  • Fluency in English, plus a second regional language is preferred
  • Ideally experience working in the technology or advertising industries or other fast-paced and consumer focused businesses
  • Experience working with business and opinion leaders to achieve communications goals
  • Experience in managing PR agencies, contractors and project management
  • Experience working in diverse cross-border teams or in an international environment
  • Team player with strong project management and decision-making skills
  • Proficient in the practical application of technology
