Position Specific Description

This management position is within the corporate Environmental Services Department of NextEra Energy (NEE).

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing the Environmental Audit and Environmental Construction Compliance Assurance Programs for all principal subsidiaries and affiliates of NEE, including Florida Power & Light Company, NextEra Energy Resources LLC, and Gulf Power.

The applicant must have the ability to manage a team of environmental professionals in support of both operating and construction facilities that span diverse generation, transmission, and storage technologies within the electric utility industry.  These technologies include wind, solar, and fossil generation as well as electric transmission and utility scale battery storage sites. Applicant must have ability to support multiple programs with multifaceted environmental and regulatory issues.

The applicant must maintain current knowledge of pertinent national, state and local environmental policies and regulations, have the ability to effectively interface with internal and external customers, regulators, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, and be able to take leadership  in resolving complex environmental matters.  The manager must help ensure NEE compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations, as well as company policies.

The job is located in Juno Beach, Florida.  Frequent in and out of state travel, with overnight stays, will be required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Environmental Science or Engineering), Master’s preferred
  • Minimum of five years of directly relevant experience, staff management experience preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of environmental regulations, understanding of NPDES and SWPPP
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills as well as analysis, problem solving, compliance, leadership, and process/project management skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

Primary Responsibilities Include: (List is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary)

  • Manage a team of professionals responsible for coordination and execution of environmental compliance inspections  at operating and construction sites to ensure compliance with environmental authorizations, permits, rules, and regulations
  • Act as primary interface with customers from operational and construction business units across the company
  • Provide leadership to develop strategy and help solve complex environmental matters through expertise and knowledge of environmental laws and regulations
  • Communicate deficiencies, risks, and corrective actions to management and stakeholders
  • Manage personnel activities such as staffing, budgets, performance goal setting and evaluations, and mentoring
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
  • Ability to work extended hours and be available for on-call support

Job Overview

This job is responsible for managing multiple multifaceted environmental issues, licensing and permitting processes, legislative development, staff resources and related activities to provide management support to NextEra Energy, Inc. departments.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

•   Obtains all required federal, state and local environmental licenses, permits and approvals for development projects
•   Supports multiple projects with multifaceted environmental and regulatory issues and assists in comprehensive environmental due diligence reviews for potential acquisitions
•   Maintains current knowledge of pertinent national and state level environmental policies and regulations
•   Interfaces with internal and external customers, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, and be able to assist in resolving complex environmental matters
•   Helps ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations, as well as company policies
•   Translates regulations and permit into actionable construction compliance tasks
•   Provides specialized environmental expertise and environmental technical support
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned
