Where you fit in

As Finance Advisor, you’ll be sitting within the Corporate Controllers’ team in London, as part of our Centre of Expertise (CoE) for technical accounting, risk management and Group structuring. With your focus on financial management, you can expect to be working closely with Treasury, as well as with colleagues in Finance Operations, Tax and Legal.

What’s the role?

The main focus of this role will be to provide expert advice and guidance on technical treasury accounting, across multiple Shell financing activities and businesses. That means you’ll be using your fiscal expertise to direct a range of technical issues, as well as helping to implement new financial reporting standards and systems.
As our ‘voice’ of Finance, you’ll quickly understand and guide on the best solutions that will achieve business objectives, add value and drive effective risk management. With an ever-changing workload business environment, your excellent insight and experience will be essential to prioritise activities according to opportunity and risk. More specific duties might include:

  • Providing expert accounting advice to project teams to ensure that transactions are appropriately reported and understood.
  • Ensuring an appropriate control framework is in place for risk management.
  • Maximising the use of Finance Operations in process delivery.
  • Appropriately involving other teams to support financial activities, whilst building overall accountability.

Your skill as a communicator will be vital to this role, ensuring you effectively present a case for added value and risk that supports decision making and drives performance, whilst also playing an important part in team recruitment and training and giving context to a wide range of stakeholders.

Requirements

What we need from you

Alongside your experience as a qualified Chartered Accountant, we also expect you’ll either have, or be prepared to study towards, a recognised Treasury qualification, (preferably AMCT or equivalent). Beyond your financial management expertise and knowledge of business functions and objectives, we’re keen to hear from candidates with as many of the following on their CV:

  • Expertise across the spectrum of Finance competences.
  • Experience in risk management and corporate structuring would be an advantage, with a proven record of continuous improvement.
  • An ability to use analytics and insights to resolve problems, with a view to influencing and supporting the decision-making process and risk management.
  • Skills within project management.
