Dana is a global leader in the supply of highly engineered driveline, sealing, and thermal-management technologies that improve the efficiency and performance of vehicles with both conventional and alternative-energy powertrains. Serving three primary markets – passenger vehicle, commercial truck, and off-highway equipment – Dana provides the world’s original-equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket with local product and service support through a network of nearly 100 engineering, manufacturing, and distribution facilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Analyze material requirements and initiate necessary releases for material required to support the plant production plan.
  • Communicate and collaborate as needed via phone and the web based replenishment portal with suppliers to ensure timely shipping of all materials needed to insure timely arrival of material as scheduled.
  • Analyze and escalate any significant vendor delivery issues to manager, so the plant production plan is not interrupted.
  • Use internal reports to support changes to parameters in the replenishment system, making sure the system creates orders on time and in the correct amount to cover the plant production plan through the next planned delivery.
  • Use internal reports to identify shortages and provide feedback and ETA in the daily materials shortage meeting held with the Master Scheduler and the Customer Contact Group.
  • Work with the Plant Logistics Provider on the scheduling of regularly planned loads in order to minimize out of process expedited freight.
  • Create and submit debit memos for vendor caused expense outside the normal plan.
  • Monitor Inventory and visit the plant warehouse and/or production floor regularly to ensure no stock outs.
  • Be prepared to assist the rest of the Materials Team in activities to “cover” absences when needed.

Challenges/Opportunities

  • Managing suppliers when material is not shipped as scheduled.  Achieving department inventory objectives
  • Maintaining material supply to meet dynamic customer schedules with minimal exposure to changes.  Internationally sourced material and suppliers at capacity significantly complicate this challenge.
  • Planners at this level are expected to achieve a high level of involvement in planning procedures and awareness of general business levels and trends to allow successful job performance.

Required Education & Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business preferred
  • An extensive material planning background in which the incumbent exhibited a thorough understanding of planning principles.  Job performance is expected to be above satisfactory levels on a continuing basis.
  • Position requires technical knowledge in the concepts and application of materials requirement planning, inventory control, and low level forecasting.  Computer literate, working knowledge of Windows programs, and web based applications.
  • APICS Certification desired
