SUMMARY

The project is located at the Misawa Air Base in Misawa, Japan. Trane is currently seeking a Safety Field Representative with the ability to interact with a variety of staff, Subcontractors and Customer representatives at all levels in an ever-changing environment, while being resourceful, proactive and efficient with a high level of professionalism. This position is based in Misawa, Japan.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other functions may be assigned.

  • Provide safety oversight to promote the company’s core value of safety for our employees and our customer.
  •  Develop and manage site specific safety program and activities.
  • Identify training needs and conduct safety orientation and training programs.
  • Provide professional direction to the management team and field superintendents.
  • Oversee documentation, tracking and analysis of all safety and injury statistics, trend analyses, and OSHA reports.
  • Conduct work area safety audits.
  • Conduct or assist with major incident analysis.
  • Monitor and review subcontractor activities for safety concerns.
  • Review Position Hazard analysis plans to ensure safety is adequately incorporated.
  • Provide resource of safety related information.
  • Evaluate and offer solutions for industrial hygiene concerns.
  • Maintain operational knowledge of construction safety, EM 385, OSHA, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures.
  • Must be capable of becoming EM 385 certified.
  • Serve as resource for safety issues or concerns for all project team members/operating management.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Assists in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.

 
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Educational Requirements – Bachelor degree in Safety, Occupational Health or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction industry and ESPC, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Primavera Expedition and P3/Suretrak required.  Familiarity with financially guaranteed contracts, the operation of energy management systems, HVAC systems, temperature controls, and process control systems is preferred.

 

Must have a general working knowledge of basic engineering, electricity, mechanical HVAC systems and the building construction industry.

 
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret plans, specifications, contract documents, control drawings, service bulletins, technical procedure manuals, equipment specifications, and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals is required.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from top management, customers, and service personnel is required. Bi-lingual in Japanese and English.

 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and algebra is required.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations is required.

 
REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables is required.

This position works occasionally in a typical office environment with regular visits to job sites which includes outdoor work and work in mechanical/equipment rooms.  During the job site visits, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
