We have the unique and significant role to partner with NASA at Johnson Space Center (JSC), to be part of every human spaceflight program – the International Space Station (ISS), NASA’s Orion spacecraft, which will carry astronauts into deep space, and Gateway, the orbiting platform providing the home for astronauts to work and travel back and forth to the moon’s surface, and serving as the platform for deep space exploration. From critical systems on the ISS to enable astronauts to live and work in space; to performing advanced development for systems leading to deep space exploration; to being part of the foundation for Gateway.
We also partner with NASA at JSC, the only NASA center in the United States to curate all astromaterial samples returned from exploration missions, to perform curation services, orbital debris analysis, and basic research to further humankind’s understanding of the origins of our solar system.

We are currently in need of a Simplified Aid For EVA Rescue (SAFER) Project Engineer to join our team with MRI, a JETS teammate company. Do you have the following skills?
As a Simplified Aid For EVA Rescue (SAFER) Project Engineer you will:
- Sustain the SAFER aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and ground units through hardware development, manufacturing, and assembly; in addition to troubleshooting anomalies and resupplying hardware.
- Process hardware response data, analyzing and documenting results for presentation to customers.
- Work as the technical lead with minimal oversight.
- Plan and execute hardware troubleshooting to investigate mechanical and electrical failures within flight hardware or test support hardware.
- Provide mission console support during EVAs.
- Generate essential paperwork and documents for tasks assigned, such as Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DR), and Detailed Test Procedures (DTP), as needed.
- Interact frequently with inter-organizational disciplines, NASA System Managers, and operational customers.
- Perform job functions based on pre-established guidelines or instructions.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience/Skills:

BS degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering school and five (5) years of related engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and four (4) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school and zero (0) years of related experience.

Experience with NASA/JSC Class I flight hardware process and certification.

Self-motivated, team player and adaptability to a dynamic environment and the ability to complete all assignments as required.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and will be expected to effectively interact with customers and management at all levels.

Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical/electrical systems and work with others in problem solving as part of a team.

Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
Preferences:
- Experience with ISS Counter Measures Systems and in-flight hardware processing for spaceflight.
- Familiarity with common hand tools and proficiency using them to perform assembly, disassembly, and troubleshooting on mechanical systems.
- Experience with Astronaut interface/communication.
- Prior experience with hardware anomaly troubleshooting and failure analysis.
- Experience with procedure development.
- Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures.
- Co-op or Intern experience at JSC or other NASA agency.
- Familiarity with the Engineering Life Cycle process.

Essential Functions
Work Environment
Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs (5% of time).
Equipment and Machines
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
Attendance
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
