Process Safety Engineer

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Process Safety Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Providing process safety consulting to all Brownwood departments regulated by 3M and OSHA Process Safety Management requirements.
  • Using established tools for inspection, analysis, identification and prioritization of potential hazards area.
  • Evaluating process safety risk and recommending controls.
  • Developing, tracking and reporting process safety leading metrics.
  • Developing and providing training on process safety topics.
  • Supporting major capital projects, in design consulting, technical quality assurance and start-up assistance.
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders and technical resources on control solutions.
  • Implementing and maintaining procedures and practices to complete routine compliance requirements.
  • Promoting best practices related to health/safety/environment and building a respective culture within the organization.
  • Training, coaching and mentoring others involved in process safety improvement activities.
  • Leading and/or assisting with incident investigations that are related to PSM.
  • Leading and/or participating on risk assessment teams.
  • Provide technical support for successful completion of plant EHS Management Plan.
  • Participate and/or lead portions of EHS self-assessments and/or audits.
  • Supports site-wide EHS programs, systems, and processes.
  • Willingness to be on-call for emergencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Your Skills and Expertise 
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of three (3) years of combined experience performing risk assessments/analysis techniques such as: Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA), Process Hazard Assessment (PHA), Layers of Protection (LOPA), RAP (Risk Assessment & Prioritization) and RAM (Risk Assessment for Machines).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of safety experience with emphasis on process safety management in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering and/or a Master’s Degree in Safety or engineering-related field form an accredited institution
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals or CCPS Process Safety Professional Certification (CCPSC).
  • Strong project management skills with ability to set objectives and deliver results to move process safety forward.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Microsoft Office proficient.

Travel: May include up to 5% domestic
