During David’s Senior Year of High School, he met a close friend, Chris Beard, who had just finished college and worked at the same bookstore and was getting ready to sit for the CPA exam. Chris got David interested in accounting and started teaching him the ropes while working at the bookstore. It was not soon after graduating from High School, that David found himself enrolled at the University of Arkansas School of Business majoring in Accounting.
During College, David continued working with his friend who had since past the CPA exam and worked closely with him on the many accounts that they had landed. Most of these accounts were in the Trucking Industry, as that was the growing business in Northwest Arkansas at the time.
In 1988, David decided that it was time to move to the big city where his chances of earning a better income could be increased and hence relocated to Dallas, Texas. It did not take long, before he found that he had a good niche in the courier and trucking industry in Dallas and worked for over 10 years as the Accounting Manager and or Controller of a couple of these companies. David worked closely for all these years with the outside CPA’s of the companies and gained a reputation of being able to make books CPA ready and fix any mess that came along.
It was late in the 1990’s, when David was hired by ClubCorp; the world’s largest owner of privately held Country Clubs and City Clubs. ClubCorp quickly realized his talent and within two years promoted him to a Senior Accountant in the Corporate Accounting Department of the Corporate Office. David was one of two Senior Corporate Accountants at the company. It did not take long, for the Big Brass to realize that David was the “Fixer” of the books. There was not a set of books that David was not able to take control off and reconcile, even after some of the managers had stated they were too big to balance. After six years, and sixteen different sets of books, David resigned and moved on to be the Controller of a Landscaping company.
From this point forward, the recession hit and things became a bit tight and tough in the job market. But, as things worked out, David always seemed to find a place that needed his talents and abilities to get things back on track. Many of the companies that David worked for, made sure that he was on the management team and had input into the strategies and success of the companies.
Today, finds David as the Vice President and Controller of Exemplify Financial Services, LLC. He was sought out for this position due to his knowledge and expertise in his the industry.
David continues to keep up on the latest changes in accounting and also is a avid fan of management books and leadership tools. People are the reason a company is successful.
